RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany March 24 —
Twelve wounded U.S. soldiers were flown Monday to Germany for
treatment at an American military hospital, military officials
said.
The wounded included seven with combat-related injuries, the
first battlefield casualties to be evacuated to Europe. They arrived
at the U.S. Ramstein Air Base in a C-141 transport plane from
Kuwait.
All of the injured were to be brought in ambulances to the nearby
U.S. medical center at Landstuhl.
Three soldiers who were seriously wounded when a U.S. soldier
threw grenades into tents at the 101st Airborne Division's command
center in Kuwait were believed to be among the injured, said Marie
Shaw, a spokeswoman for the Landstuhl hospital. One soldier was
killed in the attack and 15 injured.
U.S. military officials provided no further details. The
soldiers' names were not released.
